What is the difference between
Kegel and Tenpin ?
Kegel has been around for over 1,000 years and is still very popular in Europe. It has been a bit of a sleeping giant lately and the American version of the game, Tenpin, enjoyed a huge success in the Sixties. Tenpin is known all around the world, while Kegel is played mainly in Europe. The two disciplines differ in a few areas:
- The balls in Kegel are smaller and lighter then Tenpin.
- The 9 pins in Kegel are set in a diamond pattern, while Tenpin is set in a triangle.
- The lanes of both disciplines are about of the same length, but Kegel lanes are wider.
- There is no oiling of the Kegel lanes as in Tenpin.
- Any kind of shoes are allowed in Kegel as there is no sliding.
- Kegel offers a wide variety of games, while Tenpin in general has only one game.
