Karen Q followed this win with another one in “Ladder” by winning on 27 points, well in front of minor placings shared between DC and Heinz, both on 18. Gary and Heinz shared top spot in “Stina” with both on 13 points followed by Walter for third spot on 11 points. Only Heinz finished the game of “Pyramid” by scoring 37 points with Rosi coming in second on 29 and Gary third on 28 points.

Another good win for Tony by posting a score of 213 for the evening. Heinz was just able to hold off Keith by a point to take second spot.
For players that have never played this international format, it is played in 2 parts, each part firstly 15 shots into the “Full Frame” followed by another 15 shots into “Clean Up”; the goal is to score an average of 5 pins per Full Frame shot, which should give the player about 75 points in each round into the Full Frame. The target for Clean Up should be to clear the deck with an average of 5 shots, so in each round of 15 shots, the player should try to accumulate 27 points. This would give the player a target of 75 plus 27 = 102 points per round, therefore 204 for the two rounds would be what we call “par”. Sounds easy, but we all know that it is hard to maintain this average.
———————————————————
We will be keeping the format the same as everyone enjoys the challenge.  This format has been virtually the same since 2004 with the following games being played:
“Full Frame” – this is played for 9 rounds with every shot into the full frame.
“Clean Up” – a teams game that goes for 9 rounds whereby the team members have to tidy up every frame.  Only once the total rack of pins has been cleared, a new set of pins will be placed on to the pin-deck.
“Up & Down” – played over 6 rounds with every player having 2 shots at a time.  The aim of the game is to score a large difference with the 2 balls as the lower scoring shot is deducted from the higher one.  So, the best score would be a 9 followed by a 1 or vise verso.  If any of the two shots end up in the gutter, a zero will be recorded.
“Ladder” – again for 9 rounds with the aim to score as many different numbers as possible.  Only a minimum of three connected numbers count as the total in the players score.  For example if the player records a 1,3, 5, 6 and 7, only the three connected numbers (5+6+7) count for a total of 18 points.  The numbers 1 & 3 are not counted as they are not connected.
Stina” – only the 3 centre pins are set up, “front”, “Kingpin” and “back-pin”.  This is a difficult game as the player can only see one pin.  The score for 1 pin is 1 point, 2 pins – 3 points and all 3 pins – the Stina – counts 6 points.
“Pyramid” – This is a game of nerves, as the player has to achieve a total of 35 points within 7 rounds.  Each round sets a target which has to be reached with the total pin-fall at this stage.  The targets are 2, 5, 9, 14, 20, 27 and finally 35.  Any player that fails to reach the target number is eliminated.
We usually play one or two more games at the end of each comp night, and this is only for fun and does not count in the competition.
Kegel Sport Perpetual Trophy:
This is open to all competition players and will be decided by the following rules:
One series of the game “Tidy up first” will be played.
25 frames, with firstly having to “Clean Up” the rack 3 times and the remaining shots into the “Full Frame”.
The current holder of the trophy has to defend it against the challenger within 7 days of being challenged.
Cost of entry:   Challenger  $5.00  -  Holder  $2.50

Declan

Melody and Peter fought for the first ever holder of the trophy on the 19th of September 2010 with a win by Melody.
Tony challenged Melody on Sunday 26th of September 2010.  It was a close game, but Tony came away with a 83 to 77 win.
However, this was short lived as Walter challenged Tony within a few minutes.  Tony could have taken the trophy home for a few days but he accepted straight away.  The match was exciting to watch as the two players matched shot for shot and it came down to the last ball.  Walter emerged as the winner with the smallest of margin 65 to 64 points.
17/11/2010 - Robert challenged Walter for the trophy.  It was not Walter’s day and Robert ended up beating him with 86 points to 48.
25/11/2010 – Robert was challenged by Melody, but was able to retain the trophy by winning 90 to 43.
1/12/2010 – The next challenge came from Maggie.  It was a close match but Maggie ended up taking the trophy by winning 56 to 53 points.
8/12/2010 – The next challenge came from Tony, but he was no match on the day with his 79 points, which most of the time would be good enough to win.  Maggie was relentless by posting a new record score with her 112 points, which will stand for some time to come.
15/12/2010 – The trophy is still with Maggie as she defended successfully against Heinz.  The score was 69 to 41 points.  The next challenge will come from Melody on Wednesday the 22nd of December at 6pm.
22/12/2010 – Well, Melody done it by beating Maggie decisively with 92 points to 26.  Melody was all smiles after the win and we are sure that she will look after the trophy well during the Christmas break.  Tony has already challenged and this will happen in the week between Christmas and New Year.
30/12/2010 – We have a new holder of the trophy in Tony.  This was one of the closest matches and it came down to the last shot.  Melody had her chances, but Tony closed in and finally hit the front with the last ball which resulted in a 83 to 80 win for him.
6/01/2011 – The first challenge of the year was from Walter to take it of Tony, but  Tony was in devastating form and started wit a “9″ as his first shot.  He followed this up with a further clean-up in 2 shots.  This took the wind out of Walter and he finally ended up on 49 points, which was no match for Tony’s 119.  This represents an all time record for this game and will be very hard to beat.
13/01/2011 – Tony was challenged this week by Keith but was able to retain the trophy for the time being.  The final result was 82 points to 25, which was not Keith’s best effort.
10/02/2011 – Heinz is the new holder of the trophy by beating Tony 75 points to 47.  There have now been 6 players holding the trophy and the challengers are still coming.
3/03/2011 – Robert challenged this week for the trophy, but Heinz was able to retain it for another week.  The result was 81 to 30 points with Robert playing well below his best.  As DC (Dorothy) has donated the trophy, she was allowed to name it.  His name will be “Declan” from now on.
10/03/2011 – This weeks challenge came from Keith and he was in top form to take the trophy from Heinz.  He started off with cleaning the first frame with 2 shots and had all 3 racks cleared with a total of 9 balls.  The following “Full Frame” shots saw him continue with bowling three 8th in a row.  Final score was – Keith 98 to Heinz 65.
17/03/2011 – The current holder of the trophy is Melody after taking it off Keith in a close fought match.  It was very close right through the game and Keith had his chances, but Melody took the trophy finally with an 85 to 80 points win.
31/03/2011 – Melody was challenged this week by Walter and was able to hang on to the trophy for another week.  It was the lowest scoring game ever with Melody just finishing the “Clean Up” part of the game to win 27 to 24 points.
6/04/2011 – Another low scoring game this week with Melody beating Maggie 39 points to 26.  Both girls had plenty of trouble with their “Clean Up” part of the game and easily got the first eight pins, but took a long time with the elusive ninth pin.
14/04/2011 – Dorothy challenged Melody this week, but Melody was able to produce a good result to win the match 68 to 44 points.  This is now the 4th win in a roe for Melody and two more wins and a nice bottle of wine will be presented to her.
20/04/2011 – Walter took the trophy this week of Melody with a decisive win of 106 to 50 points.
27/04/2011 – The new holder of the trophy is Maggie by winning against Walter 96 to 51 points.  Walter kicked off to a bad start in “Clean Up” and never recovered.
4/05/2011 – Maggie retained the trophy after defending it against Robert.  The final result was 84 points to 51.
11/05/2011 – The challenge came this week from Walter and he managed to win the trophy back from Maggie by scoring 63 points to 52.
16/05/2011 – Walter was challenged this week by Robert and was able to retain the trophy until the next challenge.  It was an exciting match with Robert starting off very well by cleaning the first and second rack up in three shots each.  At this stage, Walter was still struggling on his first rack and it did not look very hopefully for him to recover.  However, Robert had a shocker with his third rack and Walter screamed past him to get 2 shots earlier as him to the full frame part of the game.  Robert tried hard, but Walter was able to stay in front until the end.  Final result was Walter 55 to Robert 45.
23/05/2011 – We have Melody back as the current holder of “Declan” by winning the challenge against Walter on Monday afternoon.  It was very close until Walter struggled with the third “Clean Up” frame, which gave Melody a good run to the finish line.  Final result: Melody 72 to Walter 40.
31/05/2011 – The challenge to Melody came this week from Robert, but he was unable to take it.  Melody played well, but it was Robert that took the early lead after cleaning the first rack up in only two shots.  Melody wasn’t far behindwithher 3 shots clean up andboth tidied the secondrackup in a further 4 shots.  Melody continued that good clean-up form withthefinal rackin4 shots, but Robert struggled with a difficult pinfall.  Melody got to the “Full Frame” stage three shots before Robert and kept this advantage right to the end.  Final score: Melody 85 to Robert 70.
6/06/2011 – This was the closest game to date between Melody and Robert and no player was more than 5 points in front at any stage right through the match.  Robert took the early lead with cleaning his first rack up with 5 shots and this took Melody two more shots.  Robert’s second frame took only 3 balls, but Melody stayed in touch by cleaning up in 4 shots.  It looked as if Robert was going to run away with the game, but at round 14, both players were equal as Melody cleaned up in 3 and it took Robert six shots.  With both players sitting on 27 points at the start of the “Full Frame” part of the game, it was shot for shot.  With 6 balls to go, Robert scored an eight, but Melody did the same 2 balls later.  It came down to the last ball and Melody needed a 6 to draw the match and retain the trophy, however the 5 she scored was just one short.  Final result: Robert 79 to Melody 78.
13/06/2011 – Melody wasn’t going to take last weeks close result without a new challenge to Robert.  Both players had a good game, but Melody couldn’t stop Robert from running away with a good win of 99 points to 83.
20/06/2011 – Robert accepted the challenge from Heinz this week.  The game started of very even with both players clearing the first rack with 3 shots and the second with 4.  So, all even after 7 rounds when it took Heinz 6 balls to clean up his final rack, but Robert had a problem with a bad split.  This allowed Heinz to get to the “Full Frame” part of the game four shots ahead of Robert which he was not able to catch up.  Final result: Heinz 81 to Robert 51.
30/06/2011 – Heinz was challenged by Melody this week, but was able to hang on to the trophy for another week with a good win.  Melody was unlucky with getting bad splits in every one of her “Clean Up” frames and fell to far behind in the first half of the game to catch up.  A few hours later, Heinz was again challenged, this time by Walter.  This was a closer match, but Heinz managed to retain the trophy for the time being.
14/7/2011 – Heinz was challenged from three different sides this week with Melody as the first opponent.  Unfortunately, Melody had lots of problems with her “Clean Up” part of the game by getting some bad splits.  Heinz ended up the winner 91 to 38.  The second challenge came from Robert and the game was close until the third “Clean Up” frame when Heinz bowled an eight with his first ball, missed the second shot but cleaned up with his third.  This gave him the edge for the “Full Frame” part of the game with the final result Heinz 99 to Robert 74.  Walter was watching this first two challenges and decided that he would like to have a crack at it but again, Heinz was able to come out on top with a 104 to 71 win.
21/7/2011 – The challenge came again from Melody and this time she was successful by winning 90 to 74 points.
25/7/2011 – It did not take long for Melody to have to defend her hard won trophy, which was challenged this week by Theo.  The match started of very close between the two players, but Melody tidied up her third frame with 3 shots, while Theo had lots of problems after starting with a bad split.  Melody hung on to the trophy by winning 90 to 58.
1/8/2011 – It was Roberts turn this week to take on Melody and both players had lots of problems with the “Clean Up” part of the game.  Robert finally managed to get to the “Full Frame” part with his last 4 balls which helped him to winning the game 44 to 26 points.
8/8/2011 – Walter challenged Robert this week and managed to take the trophy home with him.  The match was close in the early stages until Robert encountered problems in the third frame of the “Clean-Up” stage.  Walter managed to finish this part of the game 5 shots early and held on to this lead right to the end.  Final result: Walter 93 to Robert 63.
15/08/2011 – Walter managed to hang on to “Daclan” by posting a very good win against Robert in scoring 98 points to Roberts 83.  The match was very close during the “Clean Up” part of the game, however Robert had a number of bad shots into the “Full Frame” which allowed Walter to run away with it.
17/10/2011 – Melody challenged Walter this week , the first challenge in two month. However, Walter was in good form and managed to hold on to “Declan” for the time being. The final result was Walter 76 to Melody 42.
